About Us

The Friends of Dr. Edith Marion Patch is a volunteer organization working to preserve and carry on the legacy of Dr. Edith Marion Patch.  In addition to reissuing some of Dr. Patch’s writings for children, we conduct monthly free public forums on science, environment, and education.  Please see the Upcoming and Recent Events listings to learn about our programs, and consult our Newsletters or the other sidebar menu links for information about the many activities underway.

Our current fundraising efforts are directed toward rehabilitation of Braeside, Dr. Patch’s historic home near the University of Maine, in Orono, Maine.  Research and educational programs are already in progress in the gardens, woodland, and meadow surrounding Dr. Patch’s homestead. Once work on the house is complete, Braeside will become The Edith Patch Environmental Observatory, an active center for research and education where scientists, teachers, students, and members of the community can learn together about the world and our place in it.
